Savithri Ammal Oriental H. S. School bids farewell to headmistress

After a record 30 years of service at Savithri Ammal Oriental Higher Secondary  School, Mylapore, S. Manimegalai  retired from her position as Head Mistress.

The farewell function was held on March 12 at the school premises.

She was felicitated by the staff and students of the school in the presence of V. Balasubramanian, Retd. Headmaster of Savitri Ammal School.

N. Kalyanasundaram, DEO, Central Chennai was the chief guest. Also present were G. Swaminathan, former headmaster of the school and Daya Balu, member of the management committee.

S Manimegalai started her service at the school in 1921, she rose to become the HM in 1986. Backed with degrees like BA from Nirmala College, Coimbatore, an MA from Queen Mary’s College, Madras, B.Ed from Lady Wellington College, Chennai and
M.Ed. from Annamalai University, Manimegalai used these skills to advantage and combined it with administrative skills, discipline and a will to lift those students who were weak in studies.

It was never an 8-6 job for her and she stayed on to help children who needed more attention and also for slow learners before the 10th and 12th standard exams.

It was much due to her rapport, follow up with the Education Department, rise in enrolment and success rate at the exams that the school has acquired a better status, says the management.
