Candidates hit the road

Candidates who represent three national political parties have been hitting the streets and lanes of Mylapore since this week.

The AIADMK candidate, Rajalakshmi who lives in T. Nagar got a headstart and has made the best of it, doing the rounds since Sunday last.

The Congress(I) mired itself in controversy, hiccups and intrigue before the head of the state Congress(I), K. V. Thangkabalu who lives in Adyar made himself known as the official candidate and hit the streets to campaign.

The BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan, a Mylaporean made a quiet entry and has also been seeking support in streets and lanes (seen in the picture).
There are 18 candidates in the fray. This includes a software professional, Ashok Rajendran of the Makkal Sakthi Katchi ( Lok Satta).

Though the summer heat is on the rise, the campaigners have been seen on the roads even between noon and 3 p.m.

But all of them have little to talk about on local issues so their street-corner speeches are boring to most people.

Also, the strict guidelines and rules of the Election Commission have taken the colour and fizz out of such campaigns.
