Consumer Panel directs Chettinad Vidyashram to refund fees

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Chennai (South) has directed Chettinad Vidyashram School, R.A.Puram to pay compensation to a parent for not refunding the fees paid towards his son’s admission even after he withdrew the admission.

The President V. Gopal and member L. Deenadayalan of the forum passed the order on the complaint by P.Dharamchand of Mylapore.

In his complaint Dharamchand said that his son was granted admission to XI std in Chettinad Vidyashram, R. A. Puram in 2008 for which he paid Rs.32,390 and Rs.3,990 for other charges to Kumararajah Muthiah School of Traditional Arts and Crafts for a Tanjore painting book.

Later, Dharamchand withdrew the admission granted to his son and requested the school to refund the fees.

His son had not attended a single day in school, the school refunded Rs.21,000.

The forum has directed the school to refund the remaining fees (Rs.7,400), plus Rs.3000 towards mental agony and Rs.1000 towards legal costs of the complainant within six weeks.
