S. Paramanantham, a longtime resident of Mylapore’s Adam Street passed away on June 3 following cardiac arrest.

He was 63.

A resident of 19, Adam Street, he lived here for over 50 years and was a regular at Sri Velleswarar Temple. He worked as purchase manager for a private company in Perungudi, says his brother S. Kumar, retd. DD of ESI Corporation.

He is mourned by his wife Thenmozhi and a daughter who lives in Australia besides others in the family.

Savitri Jagannathan, who lived for a long time in Mylapore’s Devadi Street passed away at her Adyar home on April 29.

She was 72 and is survived by her husband V Jaganathan and her son. Contact 43504910 / 9840192300.

V. Lakshmi, 78 and a senior Mylaporean passed away on May 22.

She was born on April 15, 1935 as the daughter of Kanagasabai Chettiar and Kamalabai ammal at Mundaka Amman Koil Street, Mylapore and grew up here.

She was the grand daughter of ‘Sindanai Chirpi’ Singaravelu Chettiar, one of the early Communist leaders and a freedom fighter.

Her son said that she was religious and reached out to the community around her.

She is survived by daughters Sangeetha and Vijaya and son Kumaresan and daughter-in-law Santiny.

N. Gopalakrishnan, a passionate promoter of the arts passed away on May 23 evening at his residence at Mathala Narayanan Street, Mylapore.

He was 88.

He studied at P S School and went on to run his own business for over 45 years. He was also a lead contractor to various government departments.

A classical music rasika and patron, he founded and ran the Ooothukkadu Venkatakavi Academy Trust as a managing trustee since 1988.

He took pains to propagate the songs of Ooothukkadu Venkatakavi by holding concerts and contests for children and getting artistes to include the songs in their concerts.

He was also the president of the Sri Rama Bhakta Jana Sabha at Sri Aapparswamy Temple, Mylapore for 30 years and led the Sri Ramanavami utsavam fest here.

His family said he was a close associate of  V V Giri, former president of India

He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.
