The May Day holiday mood prevailed across the Mylapore neighbourhood on Thursday. Though most of the large stores and offices and banks observed a holiday, the smaller stores and restaurants opened for business since the morning.
If there were some signs of a May Day celebration, they were seen at the local auto stands, most of which are affiliated to the unions of the Left parties.
The local stands were decorated with party flags and at some, local union leaders made a visit, spoke informally and the group dispersed.
Traffic was light on the roads.
