Sri Thyagaraja Jayanthi to be celebrated at Mylapore

On May 24, a thematic presentation in honour and memory of the legendary Sri Thyagaraja, organised by Sarvani Sangeetha Sabha Trust will take place.

Titled ‘Thyagaraja Atma Darshan’ it will feature vocals by Poorna Rao, V. N. Shankar, K. R. Kannan and P. Sivamyandan, accompanied by C. K. Patanjali on the flute, Kiruba Murali on violin, S. Vijendran on mridangam, and Venkata Subramaniyan on ghatam.

  1. Tyagaraja’s jayanthi alone is observed with lot of fanfare. It is a pity that the jayanthi events of Dikshitar and Sastry are put in the back burner. I wonder why any sabha is hosting the jayanthis of the latter.
