Three churches are celebrating Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus. At San Thome Cathedral the festival of the Our Lady of Mylapore will begin towards the end of this month.
But festivals are already on at Our Lady of Light Church in Luz and at the Our Lady of Guidance Church in R A Puram.
At the latter, the flag was hoisted on Aug.8. The feast of Assumption of Mary ( Her going up to heaven) is on Aug.15. There is a Eucharistic procession that evening from Dhyana Ashram. The procession will be taken around the local streets and parishioners have been asked to clean their doorsteps and draw kolams and hang thoranams on their doors.
The car procession of Our Lady will be on Aug 16 evening and First Holy Communion service at Mass on Aug 17 morning where Dr A M Chinnappa, Archbishop Emeritus will be chief celebrant.
Novenas are on at the Lux Church which looks resplendent on its facade which has been lit up and illuminated at night.
The feast is on Aug.15.
