The congested part of the busy San Thome High Road is to be widened and this is one of the road expansion projects that is being pursued by Chennai Corporation. Hence, land acquisition will follow a survey of the road and most lands will be the ones in private hands.
The road which is now about 18 mts wide is to be widened to 24mts.
Since this is a key road that connects south to central and north Chennai and it also has lots of major schools located on or close to it, and since the road carries VIP traffic like judges and ministers, the pressure on it has been intense.
Many people who use it between 3 pm and 5 pm find themselves in a jam and people have missed their trains and flights when they have got stuck here.
