Scores of contract civic workers descended on C P Ramaswamy Road in Alwarpet on Thursday afternoon and began to clean the road, removing dust and dirt which had accumulated on the sides.
The dust layers were thick due to the recent rains and the bitumen and tar ripped off potholed roads.
The workers worked in groups and cleaned the road from one end to the other and then moved to Kamaraj Salai in R A Puram.
They are expected to clean other main roads in the area.
Corporation teams have also begun relaying potholed sections of key roads in the area. But the repair work is limited only to parts which are badly damaged.
