The Mylapore unit of the CPI party held a protest on Dr Radhakrishnan Salai, near the fire station asking the Corporation not to hand over the crematorium management to a private body or NGO and that it must be run by the civic body.
The protest comes after the civic body said that gas would be used for the cremation process and that a NGO would handle the operations.
For now, the cremation facility is suspended.
