News photographer says policeman hit him on San Thome High Road

The Hindu newspaper reports that one of its photographers was beaten by a policeman on San Thome High Road on Sunday. It says that the photographer was on his way to cover the immersion of the Vinayaka idols at the Foreshore Estate beachfront when this policeman restrained him from driving down at a road junction.

The officer refused to listen to the photographer’s plea that he was on a media assignment and when the latter persisted, the officer is said to have hit the photographer on his helmet and later, on his head.

Media bodies in the city have complained to the Police Commissioner and sought action against this officer.
