Maids working in R. A. Puram briefed on waste segregation at source

A meeting of domestic helpers was organised by RAPRA in association with RAMKY in R.A.Puram on October 4.

The aim was to sensitize them to the need to segregate the waste they collect at the houses where they work and leave it at the gates of house/apartments so that RAMKY staff collect the waste on their daily rounds.

The plan is to discourage maids from tossing the waste into bins or at street corners, says Dr Chandrasekaran, founder of RAPRA, the umbrella community group of this area.

At the Sunday meeting, 70 maid servant maids assembled at the Corporation Park, 7th Main Road. Representatives from Corporation of Chennai, RAPRA and RAMKY addressed the gathering.

The maids have also been told to alert community reps to traders who dump their waste at street corners and create a mess.
