Dance festival held; organised by Mylapore Trio

Mylapore Trio - dance utsav

The Mylapore Trio – Amarnath, Surendranath and Aparna and Suganthan of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted a dance festival in Mylapore from Jan 27 – 31 at P. S. School, Mylapore.

The natya utsav provided a free platform for artistes of various dance forms including bharatanatyam, kathak, odissi, kuchipudi and mohiniyattam to exhibit their talents. Radhika Shurajit of Thrayee School of Bharatanatyam was the chief guest.

The highlight of the utsav was ‘Pancha Nrithyam’ a special dance show by the secretary of
the foundation M. Sugathan who presented five different dance forms on five days (seen in the picture).

On the first day, the event started off with an odissi recital by Sowmya Bose from
Bhubaneshwar. On the second day, the audience witnessed a mohiniyattam performance by
Anjali Balan from Kerala Kalamandalam and a kathak performance by the students of Jigyasa
Giri.

Programmes on the third and fourth day included a bharatanatyam recital by Aparna
Sastry from Bangalore, a kuchipudi group recital by Hima Bindu Kanoj and her disciples of
‘Muvva-Nritya Raaga Nigamam”, Hyderabad and an odissi group presentation by Madhulita
Mohapatra of ‘Nrityantar Dance Ensemble’, Bangalore.

On the final day of the utsav, Ameera Patankar from Pune presented a kathak recital
followed by a Kerala Nadanagal by guru Gayatri and disciples of ‘Krishnanjali’ Chennai.

On this occasion, 165 children, who participated in 20 competitions received their prizes, medals,
certificates and special prizes.

A few foreign nationals from Italy and Germany were part of the audience on all the four
days.
