Sixth graders host summer camp for younger children; at R. A. Puram

053As part of summer break, one of the things parents look for is summer camps for kids. Two kids in the large community of Rani Meyyammai Towers, MRC Nagar, have come up with a fun idea for this summer.

Ananya Ganesh and Aditi Sharan, friends and students of Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam, decided to spend a week this summer taking care of the little kids in their housing community.

They made a game plan, formulated fun topics (like planets, pizza, dance music, languages of the world, sports, recycling) and came up with a time table that involves reading, activities, crafts, information sharing etc.

About 10 kids attended the camp, from Apr 18 to 22. ‘The girls enjoyed doing research on the topics, coming up with ways to explain concepts to the little kids and also sharing and playing with the younger children. Those kids, in turn, love spending time with their siblings and other children in the community’ said Jayashree Sundaresan, Ananya’s mother.
