Legal studies for class XI students: At Chettinad Vidyashram

A new subject has been introduced for class XI students at Chettinad Vidyashram, R. A. Puram. Students joining the commerce or humanities stream can now take up legal studies as their core subject.
Mirrunalini. B, the department head for sociology and legal studies says, “While commerce students can choose between computer science and legal studies, students in the humanities group have three options to choose from – history, political science and legal studies”.
The course was first introduced at the school in 2015. Says Mirrunalini, “We filed for affiliation in 2014 and started the course as soon as we received the green signal. Our first batch of 40 students will be taking their class XII exams next year”.
Topics covered? “Most of the syllabus prescribed by law universities will be touched upon. Topics like criminal law, contract law, torts, arbitrary system and others will be taught. Students will also have to analyse case laws and solve the problems. This course will be very useful for students who want to pursue law or write the civil services exam”, adds Mirrunalini.
Criteria for admission? Students from other schools have to write an entrance exam to qualify for this course. For details contact the school at Chettinad House, R. A. Puram. Ph: 24938040.
