Art Exhibition: Three young women artists’ works in ceramics

Art Houz in Alwarpet celebrates Women’s Day with a show of three young and outstanding ceramic artists at its gallery on Kasturi Rangan Road, with a show that opens on Wednesday and is on till March 18 and is open to all.

In its note, the gallery says ‘Every year , to celebrate International Women’s Day, We at Art Houz curate shows featuring works of leading women artists, excelling in their work. This edition of ‘I Rise’, celebrates ceramics, the medium.

This exhibition brings together three women artists who present different fluid and magical forms

Aarti Vir studied painting before spending three years at the Golden Bridge Pottery. She returned to her hometown, Hyderabad and set up her studio. She has been artist in residence at the Gaya Ceramic Art Centre in Bali in 2012 and in Fuping , China, with a group of 17 other Indian ceramic artists, in 2013. Her work has been exhibited in India, Japan, Australia, USA, Bali, China and South Korea.

Ashwini Bhat studied ceramics with Ray Meeker at Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry. She has a M.A degree in literature and studied classical dance for nearly thirteen years before working as a professional dancer in the Padmini Chettur Dance Company for four years. Her work has been featured internationally in many galleries and exhibitions including, most recently, in American Jazz Museum and Newport Art Museum besides others. In 2012 Bhat built her studio and woodfiring kiln near Auroville, Pondicherry, India and continues to make sculptural ceramic works there and in the US where she currently lives.

Sojwal Samant is an artist who has over the years explored diverse mediums. From wall mounted reliefs, free standing sculptures and installations, Sojwal has also expanded her horizons by venturing into digital and video art also. In 1999, she went to the prestigious  Ecole des Beaux Arts, France under a three month exchange programme.  Sojwal has to her credit numerous group presentations held both in India and overseas. The artist lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat.
