A Mandaveli resident lost her jewellery to a set of conmen recently. She and a few others seem to have fallen victim to the guiles of this gang of criminals in recent days.
The woman was walking on the road one recent morning when bike-borne men in uniform slowed down, said they were policemen, asked her to protect herself from recent crimes of chain-snatching and in the guise of helping her remove her jewelry and putting it away safely, made off with the jewelry.
Similar patterns of crime have taken place in different parts of the city, said police and they suspect it to be the work of a gang which resorts to these tricks to rob people.
