Cathedral-based free clinic looks for donors

A community medical clinic which treats the poor is seeking donations from Mylaporeans.

This clinic, run by members of the San Thome Cathedral unit of St. Vincent De Paul Society spends over Rs.10,000 a month on medicines on people who attend this clinic which is open twice a week, Mondays and Thursday, 4 to 5 p.m.

The clinic functions in the Cathedral campus.

Unit secretary Bernadette says that medicines cost a bit and donations are welcome. The members accept donations from people attending Mass on the first Sunday of the month and most of the collection goes to pay the medicine bills. “We do accept donations in cash but donors may also buy the medicines we require and give them to us, ” says Bernadette who doubles up as a nurse at the clinic.

The unit which celebrated its 85th annual day on Sunday also holds medical camps in association with medical institutions.
