Community group in R. A. Puram plans more wells in streets to tap rainwater

The community in R. A. Puram is taking steps to construct and sink wells in public spaces to tap rainwater that often floods many colonies of this zone.

Having undertaken this work in two streets some weeks ago and seen the positive outcome during the recent spell of rain, RAPRA, a umbrella community body of local residents is putting its money in the right civic spaces – sinking more wells in public streets.

The idea has been okayed by the local Chennai Corporation officers and Rain Centre which has expertise in water harvesting is undertaking the job in 2nd Cross Street, 3rd Main Road and 4th Main Road.

Mylapore’s MLA R. Nataraj is also keen to encourage such efforts and co-ordinates requests with local civic officers.

Community groups who wish to do likewise may contact RAPRA to take a look at the work and learn from the experience. Call RAPRA leaders at 24340348, 9382634871.
