Thousands of devotees, some from other parts of India started pouring inside Sri Kapaleeswar Temple on Jan 1 from 4.30 am onwards to get a darshan of the deities on the New Year.
In order to streamline the crowd, the people who wanted to do archanai were sent to Navaratri Mandapam. The archanai was held here for pradosha utchavar.
The Kapali Karpagambal Nayanmargalukum sevai seyum anbargal distributed kesari and ladoo to around 25,000 people, a volunteer said.
The temple served pongal and puliogare as annadhanam that day.
