Parkour gym pod, a new activity, comes to Mylapore

Chennai’s first Parkour Gym offering Parkour and Calisthenics classes is now available at Mylapore. Parkour is a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course training in any given environment or terrain. In the eyes of a Parkour practitioner – parks, beaches, buildings and other architectural marvels seem to become movement playgrounds. Started by a bunch of keen ‘Parkourists’, Viswendran Dayakaran, Vishal Kumar, Vignesh Raghavan, this is the second gym pod in Chennai after Guindy. The three have learned under experts from France.
“The concept of Parkour Pod stemmed from the fact that Chennai did not have many accessible places that match the above description”, says co-founder Vishal. “For this reason, we have created a dedicated space to learn Parkour in a safe and fun way.”
Parkour Pod features an open area with complex bar scaffolding structures. Parkour Pod’s sessions is of benefit kids to 8 years to adults of 50+ years of age who are interested in general fitness or movement arts as well as to athletes who are striving to improve their strength and endurance in their respective disciplines.
“Having an experience ranging from 3-8 years in this movement based discipline, our coaches are one of the best in leading organised sessions covering various Parkour techniques and also providing our students with the necessary Parkour conditioning and strength training workouts”, he adds. The trio were initially training people at Nageswara Rao Park for 7 to 8 years before they set up at Guindy.

Children/ young adult classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4.30 p.m. Fee: Rs. 3000 / month. Adults classes are at 6 p.m. Fee: ₹4500 / month.
