Chennai Metro: soil-testing works on Marina are on

Contract workers working for Chennai Metro have begun preliminary work on the Marina on yet another phase of the rail project planned for this part of the city.

Soil tests are being done at a few spots and most of them are in the lawns of the beach on either side of Gandhi statue.

Chennai Metro plans to construct a rail line which starts at Light House / DGP Headquarters zone, runs through Luz, Alwarpet and Teynampet and towards the west side of the city.

The entire section will be underground.

Some fishermen’s groups have raised some concerns – they say the work must not affect their vocation which spills on to the sands behind the light house.
