Chennai Corporation elections: Five of seven wards in larger Mylapore zone reserved for women

Five of the seven wards which fall under the Teynampet zone of Chennai Corporation which covers most of the Mylapore neighbourhood will be reserved for women in elections to local bodies which are expected in August this year.

Chennai Corporation is busy sorting out issues related to the limits and areas that each Ward covers. It is also keen to set right right electoral rolls after getting the okay from State Election Commission.

By a rule passed sometime ago to reserve 50% of seats for women in local body elections, Chennai Corporation is sticking to this.

The Wards which will be reserved for women are Wards 122, 123, 125, 126 and 173. Wards 121 and 124 are for the general category.

Currently, the city’s affairs are run by special officers because the city does not have an elected Council.
