This dance fest series intends to promote young talent; first recitals at temple this Saturday

Navapallava is a classical dance festival which aims to promote young, talented dancers who have not got enough exposure on stage.

This festival series will be launched on Saturday, June 15, 2019 with recitals at Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore.

Dancer and guru Sailaja, the artistic director of Saila Sudha Academy, is launching
the Navapallava series in Chennai. She says festivals of this nature have been launched in other parts of the country.

She says that the ‘pay and perform’ practice that many city sabhas follow allows for dancers with money to get performing opportunities while the talented ones are left behind.

The performing artistes at the festival this Saturday are Sarita Mishra
(Odissi) from Bangalore and Vithya Arasu (Bharathanatyam) from Pondicherry.

The recitals are open to all.
