Thanks to Mylapore MLA; MTC resumes its S39 route after a brief pause

A few months ago, Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) started operating a Small Bus – S39 – that directly connected Mylapore to T. Nagar and vice versa.

The ticket fare for this route was Rs. 10.

This route, that covered Venkatesa Agraharam Street, Dr. Ranga Road, C. P. Ramaswamy Road, TTK Road, Bharathidasan Road and Nandanam was welcomed by many Mylaporeans.

“But due to low patronage, this service was stopped in the month of July,” says Bharani, the conductor of the route.

“We faced a lot of difficulty after that as the frequency of regular bus service to T. Nagar (5B) is very poor. Also, it takes more than 40 minutes to reach the destination. S39 was very convenient for us as it took only 20 minutes to reach the destination and the fare of Rs.10 was very cheap for us,” says Vijaya, a regular commuter of this route,

Later, the commuters expressed their concerns regarding this to Mylapore MLA R. Nataraj. “And after his recommendation a week ago MTC resumed the service back. It was a huge relief for us. We are very thankful to him,” says Kuppammal, a commuter.

The bus service started after Mylapore MLA made a representation to MTC, says Bharani.

Commuters want MTC to provide more buses or increase the frequency of this bus route.”It will be good if they provide this service every half an hour and extend the service till Mandaveli, ” says Shanti, a commuter.
