Ashvita’s launches it’s new exhibition space at Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai

Located inside the campus of Seethapathy Clinic and Hospital at Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai is the new exhibition space of Ashvita’s.

This 3000 sq.ft space, which used to be its art gallery cum cafe is now renovated exclusively for exhibiting and auctioning a range of artworks of leading Indian artists who are big names in modern and contemporary art.

A section here is dedicated for the display of old and rare books, ceramic vessels, tools and other collector’s items that are listed at the chain’s online space.

“Till now, people could only look and buy these items from our website. But since we wanted them to physically touch and feel the items they buy, we have included this section here,” says Ashvin E. Rajagopalan, founder of Ashvita’s, who has been keen in promoting the visual art and culture of India since 2002.

In order to encourage young art enthusiasts, the gallery’s team is also planning to host a number of art education programs and workshops at this place. “During our exhibitions, we have planned to hold art walks and education programs for school and college students across the city,” he says.

The gallery was launched on Sept. 17 with an exhibition themed ‘Savage Nobles’ – where paintings and sculptures by India’s leading and globally recognised contemporary artists – Subodh Gupta, Bharati Kher, Jitish Kallat, Thukral and Tagra, and L. N. Tallur are showcased.

“Curated by Peter Nagy, the show presents a rare opportunity to Chennai’s art enthusiasts to view artworks by contemporary practitioners who are seldom exhibited in the city,” read a note of the gallery.

A huge installation of Subodh Gupta’s steel kitchen utensils welded into a daily use water bottle, oil paintings of used brass vessels, wall-works of Bharati Kher made of colorful and unique bindis are some of the interesting art pieces exhibited.

The exhibition will be on till October 15.
