Silver jubilee of QMC’s tourism department

The silver jubilee celebration of the Tourism Department at Queen Mary’s College, Mylapore and World Tourism Day, Tourex 2019, will be inaugurated on Sept. 25 this year. The chief guest at the inaugural function is V. K. T. Balan, chairman and managing director, Madura Travel Service (P) Ltd, Egmore. A special address will be given by K. Ravikumar, additional general manager, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd, Chetpet.

On Sept. 26, A. Jayalakshmi, superintendent of police, Law and Order, Mylapore and H. Krishnamurthy, assistant commissioner of police, Royapettah will flag off a rally on tourism awareness. A presentation on job opportunities in the tourism industry will follow.

K. Jeganathan, district governor, Lions Club International District, 324A1 and play back singer Yogi Sekar are the guests at the valedictory event to be held on Sept. 27. A prize distribution function will be held on the same day.

Students of the tourism department will put up exhibits and models on various topics including famous Indian landmarks, heritage buildings and Indian food. A cultural programme which will include music and Indian dances will also be put up.
