Winners Bakery trains its students to become chefs specialized in Chinese cuisine

Winners Bakery has started providing a new vocational training skill at its premises in C.P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet. Now, apart from baking, their students are also trained in cooking Chinese dishes.

Since the past few years, the bakery along with Chennai Corporation, Chennai Culinary Institute (run by Hot Breads), and the Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) has been training underprivileged children, school dropouts and victims affected by domestic violence in baking.

Says D.Ramki, a staff at the bakery, “Now, students who are interested in cooking Chinese cuisine are trained under a well-experienced chef from China Town restaurant. At present, six students are learning this skill at a separate kitchen.”

A range of Chinese vegetarian and non-vegetarian lunch varieties prepared by them is available for takeaway at the bakery. Some of the food items include veg fried rice, schezwan fried rice, chilli paneer, chilly garlic chicken. The dishes can also be ordered via swiggy.

The students are taught free of cost and are given a nominal stipend every month.”They are also served with breakfast and lunch daily,” he says.

At the end of the training, he says, the youngsters will be provided with appropriate job opportunities.

The proceeds from the sale of the items at the bakery will go towards funding the center’s training activities.
