For doklas, fafdas and khakras. Ajnabi Mithaai is now on C. P. Ramaswamy Road

Gujarat’s popular doklas, fafdas and khakras are now available at a store on C.P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet.

Ajnabi Mithaai, that is known for its authentic Gujarati sweets and snacks has recently shifted its shop from T.T.K Road to C.P.Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet.

It is located in the building that houses Eating Circles restaurant.

Hailing from Gujarat, Jayanthilal Narayanji first opened the shop at Chennai’s Sowcarpet in the year 1961.

His son Promise Kumar Vasrani now manages the shop along with his family.

Says Kruthik P. Vasrani, the grand-son of Jayanthilal, “Our savouries like the mixture varieties are very popular. We have over 100 varieties of snacks – ghatias (butter, masala, bhavanagiri), mixtures (sweet and spicy), khakras (pudina, punjabi, cheese, and whole wheat.)”

The store also has a live cooking counter for stuffed parathas (aloo, gobi) and chaats. Another specialty of Ajnabi Mittai is the special chutney they provide for chaats.

While Kruthik wants to keep the chutney’s recipe a secret, he says they follow the recipe of his grandmother Mrudula.” All three chutneys – sweet, garlic and spicy – are made under her supervision.”
