Mylapore All-Women Police arrests father-son duo for harassing young woman

A father-son duo was arrested by the Mylapore All Women Police on Friday for reportedly harassing a young woman.

The police say that Rajasekaran (68), and his son Amuthan (33) were threatening the said woman after she refused to marry the latter.

They were arrested based on a complaint filed by the woman’s mother.

According to the police, the duo has seen the woman’s profile in a Matrimonial website in 2015.

The police say that Amuthan and the woman were in touch for a few months. During that time the woman had received some cash gifts from him.

However, when they approached her for marriage the woman has refused to the proposal. That is when the duo started threatening and forcing her to get married to Amuthan, the police said.

Says R.Kalaiselvi, Inspector, All Women Police Station, Mylapore, “They threatened her when she was in Chennai and continued to do so through phone calls and video chats even after she shifted to the U.K. They even said they would throw acid on her face.”

She says that they were asking the woman to either marry Amuthan or return the cash gifts she received.

They have been booked under Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act and sections of the IPC.

Inspector Kalaiselvi says that the duo has been let out on bail by the Saidapet magistrate now.

She says that women who undergo such harassment may file a police complaint by visiting the nearest All-Women Police station. “They should carefully preserve all the evidences like recordings of phone calls and show it as proof of harassment.”
