This man makes quirky interiors at his shop to attract customers

With six cut open coconuts, a quirky image of tender coconut and walls handpainted with coconut trees, the interiors at Arun Perumal’s new venture look attractive.

Arun is all set to open his shop ‘Coconut for Health’ at South Mada Street in Mylapore.

To design the interiors, Arun says he worked extensively with his friends Smitha, Sargunan and Ragini.

The shop intends to sell a range of products made of coconut milk. They include chocolates, cakes, sweets and cookies.

Says Arun, a resident of San Thome High Road, “Nowadays, as people are switching to a healthier lifestyle, they tend to avoid milk products. So we came up with products made of coconut milk.”

The 34-year-old is extending the wholesale coconut business that his father Anbalagan started 30 years ago at this Street opposite the Mylapore Hindu Permanent Fund Limited.

Says Arun, “Though we had regular customers, over the years, the patronage came down. We found that most people avoided coconuts for cooking as they felt it was a tedious process to grate the coconut pulp. Hence, we have now decided to sell grated coconuts too.”

The grated coconuts, he says, are prepared without adding any preservatives.”All the products will be made fresh at our factory in Kolathur and then transported here.”

Arun’s shop will be opening next week at 15, South Mada Street, Mylapore. Ph: 9566107808 /24957808.
