Banyan shelter at San Thome temporarily shifts to Corporation’s school in Mandaveli

The Banyan NGO’ s shelter in San Thome has temporarily shifted to Chennai Corporation’s High School at Sringeri Mutt Road in Mandaveli.

The shelter has been taking care of around 42 mentally challenged men at its San Thome location for several years now.

A few weeks ago, it had to shift as the Corporation’s building at San Thome, where the shelter was previously located was in a dilapidated condition.

Says Adarsh, the Coordinator at the shelter, “The Corporation’s building at San Thome is over 50 years old. Hence, it was in a very dilapidated condition. After the heavy rainfall that happened recently, water started leaking from the ceiling, and few portions of the roof kept falling down.”

Following this, he says the Corporation officials inspected the building and decided to renovate it soon.

“So until the building renovation gets completed, the Corporation has asked us to stay at this school,” he says.
