Chennai Corporation’s fever surveyors will soon check oxygen levels of residents using pulse oximeters

Chennai Corporation has come up with a new plan to improve virus containment in the neighbourhood.

The civic body will now employ its sector workers (fever surveyors) to check the oxygen levels of residents, in addition to their temperatures.

On August 2 (Sunday), a senior official from Chennai Corporation’s health department, Teynampet zone (zone 9) said that they have started issuing pulse oximeters to sector workers.

And surveyors at some wards of this zone have begun checking the oxygen levels of residents during their door to door survey.

“If people have low oxygen levels, sector workers will themselves send them for virus testing. This way, we will be able to identify the symptomatic virus cases early,” the official had said.

Said a local sector worker in Srinivasapuram, “Our higher officials have informed that we would be provided with oximeters soon. Once, we receive them, we will begin checking the oxygen level of residents too.”

  1. The fever surveyor in CIT colony insisted today 05.Aug.2020 that senior citizens should take a compulsory virus test when the oxygen level was normal (checked with a pulse oximeter). Please clarify if this instruction is correct.
