Khadi Vastralayam store at R.K. Mutt Road, Mylapore that sells a range of Khadi products including clothes, soaps and handmade agarbattis, is now selling kolu dolls for Navaratri.
Images of deities like Natarajar, Perumal and bommai sets (kalyanam set, dasavatharam set, brahmotsavam set), all made either of papier-mache or clay are available for sale here.
Besides the store also has Thanjavur Thalayatti bommai and Kathakali dancing dolls for sale.
Says M K Janarthanan, the manager of the store, “We source the dolls from places like Pondicherry, Panruti and Kanchipuram. The speciality of our dolls is that all are made with oil painting. And hence, the colours on dolls won’t fade away even after three years of use.”
A kalyanam set is priced at Rs 1680.
