Classical dancers body asks chief minister to allow auditoria to be re-opened and concerts held

The Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India ( ABHAI) which has its headquarters at the Narada Gana Sabha campus in Alwarpet has requested the state’c chief minister to allow auditoria and halls meant for music and dance performances to re-open and function now.

ABHAI has formally written to the chief minister this past week, saying that hundreds of artistes – musicians, dancers, theatrepersons, make-up artistes and others – have suffered immensely due to the lockdown which led to a stoppage of their incomes.

ABHAI says that though it has collected donations and supported many artistes thesde past months it is time to permit the private auditoria to be reopened and concerts be held while observing pandemic time regulations.

These past months, many artistes are web streaming concerts or holding online seminars and workshops but the revenue stream has remained dry.

Most sabhas have also planned to host online concerts for the famed December Season in place of the live concerts that are held in the city in at least a few dozen venues.
