Churches not planning to hold midnight Masses for Christmas

The traditional midnight Christmas Holy Mass will have to be skipped at churches this season. For obvious reasons.

So, all churches in the Mylapore zone do not have plans to host Masses after 10 p.m. on December 24 in the prevailing pandemic situation.

Primarily, these Masses attract a huge number of people and not holding them would pre-empt the large gathering which is discouraged by the state rules.

“We will have many Masses from the evening onwards so sections of the parish community can attend the ones which are convenient and this avoids crowding,” said Fr. Joseph of Our Lady of Guidance Church in R. A. Puram.

At San Thome Cathedral, while the English Mass on Christmas eve starts at 6 p.m., the Mass in Thamizh is at about 7.30 p.m.

Even the annual Christmas carols services have been skipped and in some churches incorporated into weekend Masses of the season.
