Marina beach is off-limits this weekend

There are people who cannot resist being at the Marina beach. Even when a state order says the beach is out of bounds to the public.

The order covers three days starting this Friday, to discourage the huge stream of people who flood the beach during the Pongal holidays, especially on Kannum Pongal day.

This order is part of the pandemic time regulation.

Since this morning, police set up barricades and took position on all access spaces to the beach, even regulating traffic that usually takes the Loop Road at the Light House junction.

In the evening there were a few hundred people who had enjoyed the sands and the waters off the kuppam colonies at the far south end but soon, police patrols got them to vacate the beach.

Police will be in full strength on Saturday. Kannum Pongal day.
