New gas station creates problems in CIT Colony, say residents

Residents of CIT Colony’s 6th Cross Street are fuming.

They are aghast at the permission given to a GO gas station located off this street and the TTK Road junction, saying that this poses a serious pollution and fire danger risk and that the huge traffic of autos lining up to fill gas is affecting this quiet residential area.,

Said Supriya Sundararaman, “How was a commercial set-up like this given permission to come up in a residential set. Is it safe to have a combustible outlet in a residential colony? Our appeals to all authorities all falling on deaf ears.”

Residents on this street charge that loud music played at the gas station through the day and the movement of autos has severely affected their daily lives, more at night.

Adds Supriya, ‘The road has been taken over by autos lining up on our street. They have the audacity to ask us to to clear our cars to make way for the autos.”

Says another resident, Ramdas Naik, “The bunk has provided an illegal entry from 6th Cross St. Residents are unable to smoothly enter /exit from their homes now.”

Residents plan to petition the Chennai Corporation and take up this issue with senior officers.
