Srinivasa Perumal Brahmotsavam: simple pallakku procession inside the temple

The ten-day Vaikasi Brahmotsavam that was originally scheduled to start on May 14 saw a quiet beginning today.

The first evening of the utsavam would have typically seen Srinivasa Perumal go around the four big streets majestically atop the simma vahanam.

But the temple authorities have decided that the internal procession will only be on the pallakku and that there would be no vahana processions during this Brahmotsavam.

It may be recalled that when Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple organised last year’s Brahmotsavam in the first week of March this year, there too only pallakku processions took place inside the temple except for a couple of the special vahanams like rishabam.

The internal procession started on Friday at 7.30pm with prabhandham members reciting a few verses of Periyazhvaar’s Thirumozhi. The Vedic members followed Srinivasa Perumal in the procession chanting the Vedas.

There were only a handful of devotees, most of them regulars to the temple, who watched the simple 15- minute procession from outside the temple gate.
