People who intend to apply for a new ration card or have to get a new one because of loss or damage may have to wait to apply for it.
Officials at the TN Civil Supplies department’s zone office in Mylapore say that they are not issuing applications for new cards now. A smart card is being envisaged and to apply for this one will have to have the Aadhaar Card.
They said the official word on the new format is expected in late June.
They are also not entertaining applications from people who lost their cards or damaged them.
The zonal office is on Venkatesa Agraharam Street, opposite Hotel Shelter and near Saibaba Temple.
