TANGEDCO workers pull an all-nighter to restore power to residents of Thiruvengadam Street

On July 27, the residents of Thiruvengadam Street, Mandaveli lost power a little after 10 p.m. Efforts by local officials to restore power after several attempts failed. The power was finally restored after 1 p.m. on July 28.

TANGEDCO’S assistant executive engineer in charge of the Mandaveli area says, “As soon as we received the complaint we sent our workers to check out the problem. At around 1 a.m. our area engineer too dropped in. We realised that there were multiple cable faults there. Due to the cable fault, the earth induction increased and resulted in damages to five structures”.

Restoration of power in the case of major faults like this is challenging. At 3 a.m. power was restored but 30 minutes later it tripped. With not much light to work with, it became difficult for the workers to pinpoint the exact location of the faults. The area engineer stayed on till the day dawned and continued to direct the workers.

After 7 a.m. in the morning, more workers came in and started working on multiple locations at the same time. By about 11.30 a.m, power had been restored to a few residents including those at the LIC Quarters there.

By 1 p.m. power had been restored to all the residents.

  1. Very responsive of them. Kudos to them. Our building members have been constantly interacting with TANGED local officials at R. A. Puram to have a comprehensive retook at the installations and refurbish them, renovate them to avoid such surprises. Thanks again for the effort.
