Obit: R. Krishnamoorthy, senior advocate and patron of arts

Senior advocate and a patron of the arts, R. Krishnamoorthy passed away on October 18, in the early hours. He was 92 years old.

A resident of Masilamani Street, Royapettah, he was president of Narada Gana Sabha, Alwarpet from 1994 to 2021 and headed the Trust that manages this sabha till his last.

He was a former Advocate General.

Narada Gana Sabha’s K. Harishankar says Krishnamoorthy was the longest serving president of the sabha, for over 25 years till 2021.

In his tribute, Harishankar writes, “He was a long time friend of our former secretary R. Krishnaswami and his brother R. Suriyanarayanan. His association with the sabha started as a donor, patron and member in the late 70s when the Sabha was taking its initial steps to construct the auditorium in T T K Road. He had a keen interest in Carnatic music and Bharathanatyam.

Harishankar adds, ‘He supported the sabha’s initiatives through Natyarangam, the dance wing, in encouraging young dancers. He had a special affinity for instrumental music and among them, he was a huge fan of Mandolin Srinivas, Kadri Gopalnath and A Kanyakumari.’
