Tribute; Manohar Devadoss; Padma Shri awardee, designer, artist, writer, philanthropist

The multi-talented Manohar Devadoss of San Thome who was decorated with a Padma Shri some years ago passed away this December 7 morning at his residence.
He fell ill last weekend and passed away at his Papanasam Sivan Salai residence.
The funeral is planned for Friday, about 2 pm at CSI St Thomas English Church, San Thome. The body will be kept at his home, Friday 10am onwards for people to pay their respects and tributes.
Mano, as friends called him was a great designer, illustrator, artist, writer and story-teller and he carried on with his many interests passionately after facing two nasty developments in life – his fading eyesight which left him almost blind and the loss of his wife, Mahema, who had been restricted to a wheel chair after surviving a nasty accident.
Manohar wrote many books, the best being on Madurai, his native town which carried his own, fantastic illustrations.
He and Mahema raised large amounts of funds for charity every year through the sale of his artworks and greeting cards.
He deeply loved Madras, as much as Madurai and loved to tell stories and enjoy himself with friends and fans. He didn’t allow his handicaps to come in the way of attending cultural and social events across the city.
He was in his 80s.

Blessed to have known him, interacted with him along with my family members, gathered several insights……..
