Science demonstrations at local school, by NGO ‘Curious People’

Kumara Raja School, R. A. Puram‘Curious People’, an NGO formed entirely for the purpose of promoting science at Govt, Corporation and partially aided middle schools without the use of lab equipment, recently conducted a series of science demonstrations at Kumara Raja Middle School at First Main Road, R. A. Puram.

Students of Akshar Arbol International School, West Mambalam joined hands with these students, brainstormed, discussed, exchanged ideas  and put together simple experiments using household material, to demonstrate concepts in physics, chemistry and biology.

For example, they cut out holes in cardboards and with the help of a candle and demonstrated the rectilinear propagation of light. Air pressure, carbon dioxide, starch test, surface tension and light were some of the topics covered by them.

Colourful charts were also made with art material. The supplies, t-shirts and caps were sponsored by Cholamandalam Insurance.

Curious People is spearheaded by Dr. Lata Rajagopalan Kumar. She has been an adjunct faculty at Anna University and Madras University for more than 10 years and has done several post doctoral research projects. She is supported by a group of highly qualified professionals with the shared goal of propagating science among the students of the financially weaker segments of the society.
