Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore launches project for the poor

Archbishop launches programme for the poorECO-DRR Udhayam funded by Caritas-India basically aims at promoting ecological based living for the poor at Kadambathur, Puzhal and Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district.

This project was launched by Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy, the Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore on Aug 17 at Pastoral Centre, San Thome. Around 300 women from villages and 125 children from San Thome High School, St. Raphael’s Girls School, St. Thomas Middle School and St. Lazarus Middle School participated in this event.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, soil biologist and ecologist, S. J. Antonysamy, M. Arul Raj and John Arockiaraj also participated in this event. All of them talked about the need to plant trees, to follow a sustainable life style and to work for the benefit of nature and society.

This Programme was coordinated by Rev. Fr. Patrick I Joseph, executive director of Madras Social Service Society.
