Political buzz impacts Mylapore areas

Political developments across the country and locally had an impact in the neighbourhood since Thursday morning as events began to unfold in Delhi and in north Chennai.

The verdict of a CBI special court on what is known as the 2G Telecom Scam case in which DMK seniors, former union minister A Raja and Kanimozhi besides others were named and arrested and spent time in jail was made on Thursday morning. All accused were acquitted.

DMK cadres who had gathered outside Kanimozhi’s CIT Colony house celebrated – bursting crackers, dancing and sharing sweets.

Elsewhere, after voting ended in a bypoll to the state Assembly for the R K Nagar constituency in north Chennai, the ballot boxes were moved to rooms at Queen Mary’s College for safe keeping and counting.

Counting is to be done on Sunday for this high-profile poll.

A big posse of policemen is stationed in and around this Mylapore college campus.
