Donate essentials for homeless people at Corporation’s shelter

Since the lockdown, Chennai Corporation has been rescuing homeless people from across the city and housing them at its shelters. In Mylapore, some 120 of them are sheltered at Corporation’s community hall at Karaneeswarar Pagoda Street.

Though the team along with social workers have been providing food and other essentials to the inmates, the civic workers say they need more help from the public as the population here is increasing day by day.

Says Rajesh, a Corporation official who oversees the rescuing work, “Day by day the population is increasing as even local people who depend on daily wages or those who are not finding work due to lockdown are seeking shelter here. Though we are managing to provide them with food, we are unable to get sufficient floor mats/masks and bed sheets for them. ”

Rajesh says it will be good if people could also donate gently used men’s clothes (T-shirts, pants) in good condition.

The team also needs small packets of hair oil, masks, floor mats and bed sheets for some 100 people here. To donate contact Rajesh at 9840819002 or Shelter Coordinator Prakash at 7092079740.
