Tholkappiya Poonga: skywalk work in final stage

Tholkappiya Poonga ( formerly called Adyar Poonga) has been the centre of a big-budget project the past few months.  Less has been known to the public since the perimeter of this restored green zone is very secure and the state-managed Trust that manages this project rarely shares information.

What is evident is the massive and new boundary  wall with large arches and mod lighting that has been erected on the Dr D G S Dhinakaran Road side of the Poonga in R A Puram which is the main entrance to the Poonga.

Work on a skywalk that is supposed to allow Poonga visitors and staff to gain access from the west zone of the Poonga to the east zone which has been partly restored, is in its final stage

This week, the walkway was being laid across the beams constructed inside the Poonga zone and on the main road at the Pattinapakkam junction.

Also, a section of Dr D G S Dhinakaran Road has been barricaded to carry out major civic work – laying huge pipes that will allow water to flow both ways in and out of the two zones of the Poonga. This is the water created by the Adyar river’s estuarine system as well as rainwater that collects inside the Poonga.
