Mangoes from eco-farms sell fast at this Alwarpet store

Pioneering organic farmer P. B. Murali has his hands full this mango season at The Shandy shop on Luz Church Road.

He now stocks Imam Pasand, Senthuran, Banganapalli and Mallika varieties. And he will have loads of  Alphonsa from this weekend.

While Murali sources some from eco farmers across the south, he will soon harvest in stages, mangoes grown in his 60 acres farm in Madurantakam. “I am off to my farm this weekend and we will deliver mangoes in stages from this place,” said Murali.

“The local season starts in late March and ends in late June,” he adds.

The Shandy was the first shop to sell organic products in the city – veggies, fruits,  groceries: started way back in 1978.

The Shandy shop is open from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday is a holiday. ( access to the shop is from the Musiri Subramaniam Road side, into a newly created path that inks to Luz Church Road)
