Obituary: A. R. Paramasivam of Mandaveli. Former Tamil Nadu football player

A. R. Paramasivam ( fondly called “Paramu” by his friends/families and as “Senior” by his colleagues) aged 90, son of A. S. Rathnavelu passed away on May 6.

He had been a resident of Mylapore throughout his life. He was the fifth in order out of his eight siblings.

He was a former Tamilnadu state football player, also played for ICF (Integral Coach Factory) football team and for Mylapore Football Club.

He was a well known football player in the Mylapore area.

A Bombay newspaper once published a report on a match he played,  about a goal that he scored ‘dancing’, his son said.

He was also a very good swimmer, skilled in all strokes and was trained by a British swimmer during his teenage years.

He got appointed at ICF in 1955 and worked up the chain and retired as a Deputy Shop Superintendent in 1992.

He was also a very passionate supporter and well wisher of Sri Ramakrishna Math. He dedicated over 25 years of voluntary service at the Math by preparing and delivering hundreds of paper covers every week to the Math’s clinic and plain white sheets to the local area temples to pack vibudhi/kungumam.
